Peace Lodge Walk
PEACE LODGE ANNUAL WALK
It was a windy Sunday morning as we gathered on the grass outside the church at Gillamoor, North Yorkshire. Another year had passed and it was time for the 11th Annual Peace Lodge Charity Walk.
To keep things fresh this year there was a choice of 3 walks of 5 miles, 7.5 miles and 9.5 miles, with refreshment stops on them all, enabling people of all ages to walk.
30 people left the Church at 10 am, including the Deputy Provincial Grand Master V W Bro Jeff Gillyon and Assistant Provincial Grand Master W Bro Bill Fisher, 2 had completed the walk on Saturday and a further 2 had decided it was too windy, so did the sensible thing and waited for the local hostelry to open and have an early Sunday lunch.
Our party of 9 and “Bob” the dog, decided to go for broke and attempt the longest walk. Frequently the wind howled across the moors from the west and occasionally the sun shone, but thankfully it stayed dry.
It was good to see families of all ages taking part. The fun and fellowship were in abundance and even when the going got tough, the tough got going, knowing Peace Lodge Charity Account would be swelled by all the sponsorship money we were all striving to make.
At 2pm we arrived back into Gillamoor to be counted back in 9.5 miles under our belts and a wad of donations to be collected during the coming week.
With black clouds gathering and weary legs aching, we set of home. As we approached Blakey Ridge the heavens opened. Ah well its all over for another year.
Thanks go to W Bro John Skidmore, his wife Jill and family members for making this another very successful walk.
Peace Lodge looks forward to welcoming you all again next year, on Sunday 21st June 2009, for our 12th Annual Charity Walk.
