The first Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings was the Rt Hon Lawrence Dundas, 1st Earl of Zetland, which was the start of a long and happy association with the Earls and Marquesses of Zetland as Provincial Grand Masters that lasted until 1984.
Dundas lodge (7970) was consecrated on 23rd September 1964 with Robert Richardson being the first worshipful master and founder member. Robert was previously a member of North York Lodge No. 602 where he was worshipful master in 1960. Dundas, along with several other lodges, initially met at the Masonic hall, Marton Road Middlesbrough until moving to the current building on Roman Road Middlesbrough in 1976.
We meet on the third Wednesday of September (Installation), October, November, December, February, March, April and May. All meetings start at 7.00pm with the exception of the Installation which usually begins at 5.00pm.
We have a good mix of active members from 40 years old upwards and ranging in profession including education, engineering, off-shore, chemical, building and shipping as well as ex-military and police . We all enjoy our masonry and are keen to encourage new members to join in with the ritual and extend hospitality to visitors. We do not have a ‘specific candidate’ type as we are already a varied mix of men who get along with each other very well. We also enjoy the social side of masonry holding social events and an annual ladies night. We visit sister lodges often and in large numbers, something else that we encourage new members to do.
