WELCOME

To dundas Lodge 7970

Dundas Lodge was consecrated on 23rd September 1964, with Robert Richardson as the first Worshipful Master and founder member. Robert was previously a member of North York Lodge No. 602, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1960. Initially, Dundas Lodge met at the Masonic Hall on Marton Road, Middlesbrough, before moving to our current home on Roman Road, Middlesbrough, in 1976.
Our heritage is closely tied to the Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings, whose first Provincial Grand Master was the Rt Hon Lawrence Dundas, 1st Earl of Zetland. This began a long and proud association with the Earls and Marquesses of Zetland as Provincial Grand Masters, lasting until 1984.

We meet on the third Wednesday of September (Installation), October, November, December, February, March, April and May. Meetings start at 7:00 pm, with the exception of the Installation, which usually begins at 5:30 pm.
Our members are drawn from a wide range of professions, including education, engineering, offshore, chemical, building and shipping, as well as ex-military and police. With recent new members joining, our average age has lowered significantly, and we now have a healthy mix of members in their 20s upwards.
We pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming lodge, encouraging new brethren to take part in ritual, engage with visitors, and embrace the social side of Freemasonry. We hold regular social events, an annual Ladies’ Night, and support both local and provincial charity initiatives.
Each year we attend the Middlesbrough lodges’ joint charity presentation evening, where representatives of local charities are invited to receive donations, ensuring our support is shared within the wider community.
Dundas Lodge members enjoy travelling together, with strong visiting traditions. Each year we make a well-attended visit to Grand Lodge in London, and recently we have engaged in international visits — including a memorable trip to Finland. Plans are already in motion for future overseas visits.
We also take an active part in provincial fundraising and events including a recent tandem parachute jump and encourage others to partake in similar activities including walking, cycling, and running challenges. We are always happy to support suggested events in aid of worthy causes, reflecting our commitment to both charity and fellowship.

In short, Dundas Lodge is a vibrant, sociable and diverse lodge where members enjoy their Freemasonry and contribute fully to both provincial and local initiatives, while maintaining a proud history and an eye to the future.
